About Us

The Iowa Peace Network builds spiritual community among people working for peace. IPN encourages the study and action of peaceful pursuits and demonstrates the effectiveness of an active peace witness. Based on a faith perspective, the IPN poses life-affirming alternatives to the prevailing trust in armaments for security and peace.

IPN's on-going programs include:

  • The Penalty Sharing Community, providing support for people who refuse to pay taxes for war or  fines for the penalties for acts of civil disobedience;
  • Counseling and information to high school and college students on conscientious objection and alternatives to military service;
  • Presentations and workshops to church and community groups on: simplicity, peacemaking, nonviolent resistance, conscientious objection, and the faith roots of peacemaking.

IPN is supported by the United Methodist Church, Iowa Annual Conference; Church of the Brethren, Northern Plains District; Iowa Yearly Meeting of Friends, Conservative; Iowa Yearly Meeting of Friends, United Meeting; and the Mennonite Church, Central Plains District.
